This is done by accepting the credentials from the user's home institution thru a RADIUS hierarchy.. started as a European cooperation but now spans also beyond the European borders.. For a complete list of members and more information on the European hierarchy, please go to.. http://www.. eduroam.. in Norway has a RADIUS hierarchy with a top-level hosted by UNINETT.. Participating institutions are plotted on the map below.. Click on the name of an institution to go to their web site.. The map can be zoomed by clicking on a region.. Edudbg is a very useful tool for troubleshooting and proactive maintenance.. It enables  ...   – as name indicates it shows the status of all.. no realms.. It should be used for quick check that all is well in own organization, when not this could be a starting point for further investigations.. Possible problems is indicated with red or yellow coloring.. Hovering cursor over red or yellow fields give further information, and provides a link to edudbg search to give further indications to possible problem areas / clients.. The columns displayed are; Connectivity Check (access request each morning through AAA hierarchy), AAA Loop, IdP Status, SP status.. The last 3 columns using Edudbg DB data from previous day to indicate the possible issues.. IdP or SP status will be flaged as fail if the ratio of accept / reject.. You use the same authentication method, encryption and user name/password (or certificate).. The only thing that might differ is how you connect to the network.. You either use an ethernet connection or wireless.. Using the wireless you might be used to connecting to a certain SSID or it might be that your institution uses the SSID '.. ' for it's own users also, in which case you don't have to change your connection profile at all.. Your local IT administrator must provide you with all the necessary details on how to connect to your local network.. This page provides a summary of the necessary components needed and a quick backgrounder on the technology used.. Wireless connectivity.. For wireless.. sites the SSID is '.. ' (all small letters).. TTLS and PEAP are similar methods that both utilize the authentication server's certificates to create an encrypted tunnel using TLS.. This makes it possible for the user to safely transmit a username and password.. The username and password is transmitted using MS-CHAPv2.. At your home institution your local RADIUS server checks if you have the correct authentication.. When you connect to another.. site, that RADIUS server will forward your authentication request to the next level RADIUS server in a hierarchy of servers.. Every national top-level RADIUS knows where to forward authentication requests from users within its nation.. Requests from users from other countries are forwarded to an international top-level RADIUS server which in turn forwards it to the correct country.. To have all this forwarding work each user must be uniquely identified.. The user name must be followed by '@', organization and country.. I.. e.. if your user name is "brukernavn" and you work at UNINETT in Norway, your full identity/user name should be "brukernavn@uninett.. no".. If you neglect to use your full identity/username you might still be able to log on at your home institution but other institutions will not be able to check your identity and you will be denied access.. You must have installed a client on your computer that is able to authenticate using IEEE 802.. 1X, the correct EAP protocol and employ the required encryption method.. We also presume that you already have downloaded and installed the public certificate of your Certificate Authority (CA).. Right click on the tray icon for the wireless card and select.. Open Network Connections.. This can also be done by right clicking on.. My Network Places.. icon or by choosing.. Network Connections.. from the.. Control Panel.. Locate the icon for the wireless card.. Right click on this icon and select.. Properties.. In this dialog box, choose.. Wireless Networks.. Check the box marked.. Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings.. Press.. Add.. to add a new wireless profile.. Insert the.. Network name (SSID).. 'eduroam'.. Network Authentication.. is 'WPA' and.. Data encryption.. is 'TKIP'.. Select the tab.. Authentication.. EAP type.. should be 'Protected EAP (PEAP)'.. If you are using certificates (TLS)  ...   'Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)'.. Enable Fast Reconnect.. Configure.. to configure MS-CHAPv2.. Remove the.. Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).. if your eduroam username and password differs from what you use as Windows logon.. The main dialog window for wireless networks should look like this when finished with the profile.. OK.. to finish the configuration.. Back in the Windows workbench, the wireless card should now search for available wireless networks.. When 'eduroam' is found, a yellow bubble will appear.. Click on this bubble to get a dialog window to enter the users' credentials.. Enter your full identity/username ('brukernavn@uninett.. no') and password.. Let the.. Logon domain.. remain blank.. If everything went well you should get a message that you are attached to 'eduroam'.. This client is available for all users of IBM ThinkPad laptops.. It is far more configurable than the XP SP2 client and offers several additional options.. Be sure that you are running the latest version of the IBM Access Connections and driver.. For this description, v3.. 52 and driver v3.. 1.. 102.. 27 was used.. In the first window, choose.. Manage Location Profiles.. to make a new profile.. Give the profile an appropriate name.. Here we have chosen 'eduroam'.. Select the wireless adapter to use.. Use DHCP to obtain an IP address.. leave these settings to default.. Let the DNS settings be as default.. Network Name (SSID).. is set to 'eduroam'.. Connection Type.. is 'Access Point'.. Wireless Mode.. is in most cases 'Auto'.. Wireless Security Type.. is set to 'Enabled - Use IEEE 802.. 1x Authentication'.. Make sure that the 'Use Access Connections to configure wireless authentication settings' is chosen.. Access Point authentication.. is set to 'WPA'.. Data Encryption.. should be 'TKIP' (Or 'AES' if you  ...   In this case it is 'UNINETT Certificate Authority (temporary)'.. Server Name.. is in this case 'uninett.. no' (but is strictly not necessary).. After these settings are completed, press.. Enter user credentials.. This dialog let's you choose to prompt for the user name and password every time (safer) or have it stored permanently on the computer (not so safe).. Your user name/identity must be followed by your domain (in this case '@uninett.. no').. Follow the configuration wizard and fill out the rest of the configuration options as you se fit.. Back at the main window, select your newly created profile and press.. Connect.. The client will try to connect to the 'eduroam' network.. If everything went well you will get a message saying so.. A typical example of something gone wrong with the authentication process is that the client stops and waits at the.. Waiting for IP Configuration.. Check your configuration and try again a couple of times before checking with your local IT administrator.. If everything is fine the main window will show your signal strength and the IP address you are given..
